Archbishop leads the Tonga Episcopal Unit Council

On July 5, 2025, St. Paul’s in Nuku’alofa hosted the 2nd Tonga Episcopal Unit (TEU) Council for the year. Archbishop Sione was present in this council to initiate discussions and preparations for the Diocese of Polynesia to host the forthcoming hosting of the Te Hīnota Whānui, or the General Synod of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and Polynesia in Tonga in 2026.

The event was held over a full day at St. Paul in Kolofo’ou, which serves as the mother church to several mission districts that have evolved into parochial districts, including All Saints, St. Barnabas, St. Mathias, and St. Andrew’s in Vavaú.

The TEU has scheduled three council meetings this year to assess and report on progress concerning tasks and activities within the unit. The next meeting will take place in November at St. Barnabas Church in Mataika.
