8 June 2025 | Holy Trinity Cathedral, Suva
Sunday, 8th June was a day of joyful gathering and spiritual significance at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, as members of the Suva/Ovalau Archdeaconry came together to celebrate three major occasions in a vibrant combined service.
The day began with a spirit-filled Eucharist, enriched by moving presentations from the Moana Children’s Ministry and the Lotu Youth Mission Community. The service brought together congregants from all 13 churches and parochial districts across the archdeaconry, filling the cathedral and overflowing into the verandahs, tents, and scaffolding prepared for the occasion.

Pentecost Sunday, one of the most pivotal events in the Church calendar, commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles. Often regarded as the “birthday of the Church,” Pentecost marks the end of the Easter season, fifty days after Easter Sunday. The celebration is characterized by the color red—symbolizing the fire and power of the Holy Spirit—and emphasizes themes of spiritual renewal, unity, and the global mission of spreading the Gospel.

Adding to the significance of the day was the official launch of the Diocese’s Evangelism Ministry. This new initiative signals a renewed focus on outreach and discipleship across the diocese, aiming to nurture faith, equip communities, and expand the Church’s presence through intentional evangelistic efforts.

The service also acknowledged World Oceans Day, with a special focus led by the Moana Children’s Ministry. Through their presentations, the children advocated for ocean conservation, raising awareness on the threats of pollution and biodiversity loss, and urging all to become stewards of God’s creation.

The day concluded with a time of fellowship over a shared meal, where stories were exchanged, connections strengthened, and the spirit of unity and purpose celebrated in full.
